Welcome to Paintbox Crafts, glass and art by Catherine Allen

Follow the Artists Around Sudbury Trail!
As part of Suffolk Open Studios, my studio is open to the public on 22nd/23rd June together with 8 other artists
in the Sudbury area. A great opportunity to see behind the scenes, including painting, glass, sculpture and jewellery.

As a lampwork bead maker, I create my own  glass beads and combine them with hand forged sterling silver to make unique pieces of jewellery. I wind the beads from melted glass in an intense flame often adding fine silver to the surface or etching them in acid for a matt fossilised feel. Find out more here.

My jewellery is available to buy online here or from the Bircham Gallery in Holt, Norfolk or the Snape Gallery at Snape Maltings in Suffolk.

My range of stained glass panels is increasing and some small hanging panels are now available in my online shop. I enjoy creating freestanding panels rather than windows, combining traditional leading and copper foil techniques, some with LED backlighting. Recently I have been exploring adding an extra dimension to my work by painting the glass with traditional kiln fired paints. I am happy to discuss commissions. Click here to see more examples.

I am a member of Suffolk Open Studios and my studio will be open to the public at weekends during June and at other times by appointment. This year myself and eight other artists in the Sudbury area of Suffolk have got together to form Artists Around Sudbury and are all opening our studios on 22nd/23rd June. We have provided a trail for you to follow to make sure you miss nothing of the great art and craft in our area. If you are looking for a gift for the home, look no further than my handpainted china. I have decorative plates and named mugs for children. My brightly painted Seaside plates have been gracing the downstairs loos of East Anglia and beyond for 15 years now and are as popular as ever, why not start a collection!
